Huge, huge news today from the world of Marvel as they attempted to slap down DC’s recent momentum by announcing their own comic book movie lineup. Amid massive Civil War news, Infinity War news, and other character announcements, Marvel granted fans wished with the official announcement that a Black Panther film is on the way! That’s right! After years of begging, Marvel President Kevin Feige finally quenched fan’s thirst to see the King of Wakanda on the big screen by announcing he’ll be getting his very own movie come November 3rd, 2017 and will be played by none other than Chadwick Boseman who you may recognize from recent biopics like 42 and Get On Up. But Boseman’s involvement in the solo outing wasn’t the only major Black Panther announcement to come from the Marvel playground – the character, whom comic fans know plays a MASSIVE role in the Civil War and Infinity Wars storyline, was confirmed to have an appearance, in full costume, in Captain America 3: Civil War set for May 6th, 2016. The scope of the Panther’s appearance in more than just those two films is unknown at the time, but Feige did tell the audience today that things have already been seeded in the films for the character’s appearance. If we play connect the dots with the currently speckled Marvel universe and this Black Panther news, most everyone is speculating that based on Andy Serkis’ appearance in the Ultron trailer, he’s going to be playing Klaw, who we all know is the arch nemesis of Black Panther. We also know Klaw steals vibranium from the mineral deposits in Wakanda, which are used to help create Ultron. Might there be a Black Panther reference in Age of Ultron with Klaw stealing vibranium? Black Panther would certainly be seeking revenge for his homeland being raided for resources and we know in the comics, Klaw kills Panther’s father to acquire it. This theory was certainly backed up today by Kevin Feige when he said, "Something I already showed you today contains an Easter egg that leads directly into ‘Black Panther.’ He’s a bit of a prince, he may even become a bit of a king, but it’s all about how this isolationist country meets the world. Maybe it goes well, maybe it doesn’t.” Additionally, this hint and the Black Panther dots are also connected when we analyze that shot of Captain America’s broken shield crashing to the ground in the trailer – what’s one of the main materials used to construct Cap’s shield? You guessed it – vibranium. Additionally, in the Civil War comics, Panther sides with Cap during the Superhero Registration Act. If Iron Man’s creation breaks Cap’s shield using stolen vibranium from Wakanda, we can safely assume Panther is going to back Steve Roger’s on this endeavor. Panther also plays an important diplomatic role in the Civil War as being one of the first superheroes to reveal his true identity as well as acting as envoy to the Inhumans – a group of heroes that were also announced today to be getting their own film in 2018. Now, something to keep in mind, during the Marvel Event, Feige originally said Captain America 3 would be called Serpent Society, but then backtracked saying it was a joke before changing the title to Civil War. Black Panther helped bring down the Serpent Society, so was there any truth to the joke? Quit playing with our emotions, Feige! Oh, and to just add the cherry on top of this incredible day, we got some Black Panther concept art to boot! Mmmm. How sweet is that?! Take it all in. We can’t even begin to wonder what the solo film will be about, but perhaps a revenge-seeking mission for Klaw? Time will tell and we’ll certainly be cluing you in on anything we hear, but as you get excited for finally getting to see Black Panther on the big screen, click here to check out 7 superhero movies that we will never get to see.
