New Valve patent will allow for playing games before they have completed downloading
Steam’s parent company, Valve, have filed a patent that will allow gamers instant access to their games.
The patent was originally filed in March 2020 and was published just yesterday.
Whilst this is not necessarily a new concept, as Sony and Microsoft consoles both have this feature already, existing versions of this technology require significant chunks of the game to be installed.
Valve’s technology works by finding which files players use when accessing different parts of the game, based on what a number of users experience.
This may improve loading times for larger games too, as it seems that it will load only files that are required from the player, rather than everything at once.
Time will tell if this technology will be implemented on Valve’s new system, The Steam Deck.
