Nick Carter Makes Emotional Return to Stage Amid Rape Allegations
Nick Carter made his return to the stage on Friday night, performing with the Backstreet Boys at iHeartRadio's Jingle Ball in New York City. This marks Carter's first performance since being sued for rape by a 39-year-old woman named Shannon “Shay” Ruth, who claimed she was raped by the singer when she was underage.
Despite the allegations against him, Carter seemed to be in good spirits as he and his bandmates covered Wham!'s "Last Christmas" and sang their hit 1997 song "Everybody." The audience received the group well, with fans clapping and singing along to the performances. The support for Carter continued on social media, with the #IStandWithNickCarter trending on Twitter.
Carter's attorney released a statement denying the allegations, calling them "not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue." However, ABC has since cancelled the Backstreet Boys' upcoming holiday special "A Very Backstreet Holiday" in light of the allegations against Carter.
It remains to be seen how the legal situation will play out, but for now, fans are showing their support for the singer and the Backstreet Boys.
