In this video, the Phresh Ninja has come back once again to Ninja Gaiden but this time it was the surprise shadow drop release and new next-gen remake Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. He has already fully played through the original, and the Sigma 2 versions in the past. The New Game + option is actually missing from this new version of the game. However, this time he has loaded a New Game + mod and is playing again using the fun and overpowered way with all weapons and enhancements. For more information on the game, read further down in the description below. A link to the mod will be included in the comments section as well. Here is the Phresh Ninja's gameplay of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.
In an interview with IGN leading up to the release of the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection in 2021, which includes the Sigma versions of the first two titles, the head of Team Ninja Fumihiko Yasuda mentioned that the developer was "unable to salvage" the source code from the original games on Xbox platforms. For that reason, as well as the additional modes and costumes in later ports, Team Ninja didn't have any plans of remastering Ninja Gaiden Black or Ninja Gaiden II.
Following the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4 during the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23, 2025, Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo announced that an Unreal Engine 5 remaster, titled Ninja Gaiden 2 Black will launch later that day for PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox Game Pass. Calling it "a definitive version" of Ninja Gaiden II in the vein of the original Ninja Gaiden Black, Yasuda explained that the idea came from feedback following the release of Master Collection, as many fans wanted to experience something closer to the original Xbox 360 game.
This remaster, directed by Shuhei Sato, aims to replicate the feel of the original Ninja Gaiden II by incorporating its upgrade system and restoring its level of blood and dismemberment. The enemy count was also increased, though not to the extent of the Xbox 360 version. As the remaster was built using Sigma 2 code, it retains most of its changes and additions, such as playable Ayane, Rachel and Momiji, revised enemy placement, costumes, Tag Missions, and the Black Dragon boss, but removes the Great Buddha and Statue of Liberty bosses, as well as the "Ninja Race" mode. The New Game Plus mode, "Test of Valor" challenges, Mission Mode DLC and the Giant Death Worm boss fight that were removed in Sigma 2 are still absent in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.
