니폰이치 소프트웨어가 발매한 2D 액션 어드벤처 게임. 반딧불 일기나 요마와리: 떠도는 밤, 로제와 황혼의 고성등의 작품을 디자인했던 후루야 마사유키의 계보를 잇는 작품이다.
동화를 소재로 하지만 일반적인 동화에서 악역으로 등장하는 마녀나 괴물들을 오히려 주인공으로 삼는 니폰이치답게 이번 작품도 괴물인 늑대가 주인공이다.
시놉시스
신기한 숲을 배경으로 아름다운 목소리를 가진 괴물과 사고로 인해 장님이 되어버린 왕자가 펼치는 이종족 간의 이야기.
게임 플레이
게임은 한편의 동화책을 읽어주는 컨셉으로 진행된다. 스토리 파트에선 여성 내레이터가 화면에 나온 문장들을 구연 동화를 읽어주듯 낭독하다가 한 화면의 텍스트를 모두 읽으면 책장을 넘기는 연출로 다음 화면으로 넘어가는 형식으로 스토리를 진행한다. 액션 파트에선 공주를 조정해 왕자의 손을 이끌고 2D 플랫포머 퍼즐을 풀어가며 진행한다. 이번 작품은 액션 파트에 별 무게를 안 두었는지 난이도가 그리 어렵지 않으며, 만일 일정 시간 이상 클리어 하지 못하면 자동으로 스테이지를 넘어가는 기능까지 지원한다. 다만 이 난이도때문에 오히려 극심한 컨텐츠 부족이 빠르게 체감된다.
전체적인 플레이는 전작들과 같이 두 캐릭터(공주와 왕자)를 스테이지의 끝까지 데려가면 된다. 두 캐릭터의 조작은 전작들을 적절히 혼합한 형태인데, 메인 캐릭터인 공주는 늑대로 변해서 괴물을 잡을 수 있고 인간일때보다 더 높은 점프가 가능하기 때문에 전작들에 비해 조작이 더 수월해졌다. 왕자는 공주가 끌고 다니지 않는 이상 움직이지 않는 짐짝 역할(...)로 직접 조작할 수는 없지만, 공주가 말을 걸어줌으로써 일정 거리까지 스스로 걸어가게 할 수 있고, 물건을 들어서 다른 곳에 옮길 수 있게 할 수 있는 등 조력역할이 어느 정도 가능하다.
전체적인 플레이 방식은 거의 왕자를 끌고가다시피 하는 방식으로 진행되는데 로제와 황혼의 고성에서 거인이 로제를 들고 가는 거랑 유사하나, 여기서는 왕자를 잡고 있는 버튼과 점프 버튼을 동시에 눌러야 둘이 같이 점프를 하기 때문에 처음에는 조작이 불편하다. 게다가 지형차이에 따라 잡고 있던 손이 끊기는 일도 있다.
수집 요소
꽃과 꽃잎을 모으면 수집 요소가 개방된다. 꽃은 모으면 마녀의 뒷이야기를 알 수 있다. 꽃잎을 모으면 설정이나 스케치 같은 엑스트라 요소를 얻을 수 있다. 이 게임의 플레이 타임을 조금이나만 늘려주는 요소.
꽃잎은 어떠한 방식으로든 줍기만 하면 되지만, 꽃은 맵에 비치된 꽃밭에서 공주의 모습으로 꽃을 따서 왕자에게 가져다 줘야 된다. 이때 꽃을 들고 있는 상태에서는 늑대로 변할 수 없으니 주의.
평가
몽환적이고 동화적인 느낌이 나는 게임 분위기나 그림체, 그리고 동화책을 읽어주는 컨셉의 게임 시스템에 대해선 호평이 많다. 퍼즐요소도 그렇게 어렵지 않고 머리만 조금 쓴다면 풀 수 있는 쉬운 퍼즐들로 구성되어 있다. 또한 OST도 동화적인 분위기에 맞게 잘 구성되어 있다는 장점이 있다.
그러나 이런 장점들에도 불구하고 게임에 대한 평가는 나쁜 편. 가장 큰 문제는 59,800원이나 하는 풀 프라이스 게임인데도 불구하고 플레이 타임이 4시간이 채 안 될 정도로 분량이 적다는 점에서 매우 큰 비판을 받았다. 그래픽과 스토리에 호평을 하는 유저들도 6만원 값어치를 하는 게임은 절대 아니라는 평가를 내릴 정도.
당장 그 언더테일도 스팀판 9.99 달러, 콘솔판 14.99 달러이고 비슷하게 동화적인 느낌이 나고 그래픽과 스토리에서 호평을 받은 오리와 눈먼 숲의 출시가가 스팀 기준으로 19.99 달러라는 것을 생각해 보면 가히 도둑놈 심보라고밖에 할 수가 없다. 역시 니폰이치 소프트웨어답다는 비판도 있을 정도. 물론 게임의 스토리라인을 생각해보면 플레이타임이 짧은 게 오히려 적절하긴 하나, 그러면 그 대신에 가격을 낮췄어야 했다.

The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince (Japanese: 嘘つき姫と盲目王子, Hepburn: Usotsuki Hime to Mōmoku Ōji) is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nippon Ichi Software. It was released in Japan in May 2018 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita, and was released in western territories in February 2019 only for Switch and PlayStation 4.
Gameplay
The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince is an action-adventure game played from a side-scrolling perspective. The player is a wolf who can freely shapeshift into a princess under most circumstances and must do so to properly escort the prince through the levels. In princess form, the player can hold hands with the prince in order to bring him alongside her and give him simple instructions to perform, such as jumping or telling him to walk left or right for a way.
However, the princess is also more vulnerable as she cannot survive falls from high areas and attacks from creatures. In wolf form, the player is able to protect the prince from the forest creatures and human enemies in combat, either by directly attacking the creatures or by utilizing the environment in order to do so. The wolf can also survive high falls and withstand attacks from creatures.
There are also environmental puzzles in the forest, such as platforms that react to weight, small areas that only the princess can fit through, or heavy objects that block the road and can only be broken by the strength of the wolf. The prince can also hold and place certain objects for the princess while the player guides him to the right position. There are several objects that only the prince can hold, such as fire lanterns.
Plot
Every night, on a tall cliff deep within a monster-filled forest, a large wolf monster would sing to the night sky. Her beautiful voice soon attracted the attention of a young prince from the kingdom surrounded by the forest, who began to journey to the forest every night to listen to her. Initially wary of the human, the Wolf began to enjoy the prince's admiration for her music, but feared letting the prince discover what she truly was and would run off before he could see her.
One night, the Prince climbed up the cliff to see the owner of the lovely voice and the Wolf, caught off guard by the prince's actions, accidentally blinded him when she impulsively tried to cover his eyes. In fear, the prince stumbled backwards and fell off the cliff despite the Wolf's attempts to rescue him. After being saved by a guard, drawn over by the commotion, the Prince is imprisoned by his parents as his wound shamed their family. A few days later, the wolf sneaked into the castle upon learning of this and feeling guilty over the prince's misfortune. Telling the prince that she is a princess from a neighboring kingdom, the Wolf decides to take the prince to visit the Witch of the Forest; a mystical being who can grant wishes for a price. But realizing she cannot take him as she is, the Wolf seeks out the Witch and offers her singing voice for human form.
