DESCRIPTION ▼
In an effort to jazz up the business segments -- which are the most exciting segments of the podcast anyway so I'm not sure why I need to jazz them up -- integot will give the key numbers from Nintendo's full financial year and three insights
The numbers:
▸ Revenue U$16.59 billion, up 34.4% YoY. Highest since FY08/09 (Wii and DS era).
▸ Operating Profit U$6.04 billion, up 81.8% YoY. Highest in the 131 year history of the company.
▸ Total sales of the Switch at 84.59m, with 28.83m for FY22 (to give you an idea of what that looks like, you could give a Nintendo Switch to every person in Australia, or in another way, it's almost one Switch sold per second for a whole year)
▸ Forecast sales of 25.5m switches in FY22, putting the expected total at FY22 of 110.09m, which would make it the best selling Nintendo console of all time (Wii 101.63m) and threatening the PS4 total (115.9m)
The insights/analysis:
▸ Predicted total sales of Switch at PS4 pace (solid backend): 130.35m
▸ Predicted total sales of Switch at Wii pace (weak backend): 117.83m
▸ Predicted total sales of Switch at int's pace (strong backend): 140.50m
▸ Record spend for R&D, improvement in online and Switch successor: "Investing in online as well. Although mid way through Switch cycle it is necessary to invest in the next platform, where hardware and software integrated will continue." David Gibson, Investment Analyst
