DESCRIPTION ▼
Do we now have a new king for retro console upscalers for modern TVs? Mike Chi, electrical engineer who was into retro games as a hobby and now has almost accidentally gone down this path of creating a company.
Simply, the RetroTINK 5x Pro allows you to input your old retro console with composite / component / (or if you're lucky) RGB / SCART inputs and plug the hdmi outputs into a modern TV. Historically, even the best upscalers like the original king, the Framemeister (not made anymore and insanely expensive) and the new king on the playground, Open Source Scan Converter (OSSC) - (similar price), have struggled with certain aspects such as switching resolutions (occurring on PS1 games) or interlacing (PS2).
Priced at $275 - which even Mike Chi feels is too high, restricted by current component prices. Relevant for our Aussie gamers - there are some issues for PAL signals, eg 288p @ 50hz, but that is likely to be addressed in a firmware update
Thanks to Modern Vintage Gamer and Bob from RetroRGB for the information.
