When a firm executive talks about cutting costs, everyone thinks of layoffs. This is what happens in most cases. But when looking at a firm’s expenses, CEOs can find many other sections that “eat” money as well. So they can close those sections to save money. For instance, what if your firm won’t pay for your lunch anymore? Not long ago, Tesla Twitter CEO Elon Musk said he would apply new cost-cutting measures. For instance, he will cancel the free lunch at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters.

A few days ago, we learned that Elon Musk plans to make Twitter employees pay for lunch in the firm’s cafeteria. Over the past 12 months, the cost of each lunch exceeded $400, bringing the annual food service cost at the San Francisco headquarters to about $13 million.

This statement made mad a former Twitter employee, Tracy Hawkins. He was responsible for “work transformation,” including the free lunch program at Twitter’s headquarters. In fact, Hawkins said, meals cost about $20 to $25 per person per day.

Other Twitter employees joined the discussion. Some said Musk is destroying Twitter’s work culture; others criticize Twitter’s free lunch program, saying the lunches are a privilege, not a normal right.

Besides this, Elon Musk also sent a letter to Twitter employees a few days ago, saying that the firm will cancel remote work. Moreover, employees must work at least 40 hours weekly in the office.
