The first feature I’d love to see implemented into No Man’s sky is the ability to fly freighters. Freighters have become a staple of the franchise ever since their introduction in the foundation update. These colossal interstellar beast come in 3 types and a range of classes, with the most sought after freighter being called a star destroyer by much of the community. At the moment these behemoths mostly just serve as mobile space bases that you can upgrade and command your fleet from. But I think hello games should make these bad boys pilotable sometime down the line. Now I’m not asking for anything crazy where we are able to warp drive through enemies like in the last Jedi, but it would be nice to be able to control its direction, speed, and maybe even land close to a planets surface similar to what was seen in halo 3’s set pieces. Along with being able to feel the power and weight of a freighter, it would also be nice to then control its cannons and weaponry for freighter versus freighter engagements similar to the kind of mechanics seen in assassin’s creed black flag, since as well know the ship combat in that game was one of the best parts of the could really feel epic at times. So while on the topic of being able to fight other freights as well as pilot and land these ships, is my second idea.
One of the key aspects of making space combat feel a lot more immersive and allowing players to understand the size and scope of the battles they’re in, is seeing the biggest ships be destructible or get destroyed in the background.
