If you want to install Flight Simulator 2020 on your Xbox Series X/S but you don't have enough room (especially the S with 512GB of storage), here's how to add storage without opening up your Xbox and putting in a larger drive. The drive has to be 128GB or larger and have a USB 3.0 interface. Here's how to add an external m.2 NVMe SSD or any other external SSD to your Xbox. If you're on a budget all you need is the smaller 250GB drive listed below and you're in business.

To be clear, Flight Simulator 2020 and other Xbox Series OPTIMIZED GAMES need to run directly from Xbox Series X/S internal storage or official expansion card. But you can move all the other games including Xbox 360 and original Xbox games to the external drive giving you more space on your system's drive.

Of course this procedure will allow you to install any games on a regular Xbox One as well. I loaded up Halo and it loads extremely fast. Once you get it ready, you're be enjoying fast loading games and more space to keep more games stored locally. It's a big win if you are on Game Pass and constantly have to swap out games for new ones you want to try.

Now all I have to do is save up for a Series X/S (after the prices come down).

By the way, if you have a regular Xbox One X, flight simulator won't run on it. But you're other games will be blazing fast to load.

NOTE: As mentioned above, the drives listed below will not allow you to run OPTIMIZED GAMES directly. They are for game storage only.
