You're probably thinking that something like elemental resistance is too simple to require a tutorial. While it is simpler than most other features in the game, there are still a few gotchas, like the difference between elemental resistance levels and flat elemental damage reduction from rings/bracelets.
Resulting damage = (original damage * (some multiplier from elemental resistance level)) - flat elemental damage reductions
