Non-linear Quality - First Cup of Tea #gamedev

We like to treat comparisons like there is a nice linear gradient from bad to good.
But often we get non-linear quality where there are distinct lines between bad and good with little gradation between.
In the middle can exist a third quality, "acceptable" where a feature is good enough to escape notice. In GameDev, this can be a common situation
I don't promise a conclusion in First Cup Of Tea but I reach one here.
