Norwegian citizens can temporarily come to Turkey with their identity cards
The Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs announced the decision after meeting with Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeld said, "I am very glad that Turkey has temporarily changed the passport provisions. Norwegians who do not have a passport for the rest of the year can use an identity card while traveling to Turkey."
According to the information obtained, the application will be temporary. The decision was taken, taking into account the tourist season, to enable Norwegians, who could not renew their passports due to the chip crisis, come to Turkey.
When the problem disappears, it will be returned to the passport entry method. Since Norway is included in the Schengen visa system, Turkish citizens need a visa to travel to this country.
EXPLANATION FROM FOREIGN
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement about the ongoing discussions on social media regarding the regulation for Norwegian citizens to travel to Turkey with their identity cards.
Making a statement on the subject, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tanju Bilgiç emphasized that no agreement was signed between Turkey and Norway during the Norwegian Foreign Minister's visit to Ankara. He underlined that Norwegian citizens could not extend their passports due to the worldwide chip crisis, and therefore, they were allowed to travel with an identity card for a temporary period of time. Stating that Norwegian citizens will travel to Turkey with their ID cards for 6 and a half months, Bilgiç emphasized that Norwegian citizens will be able to travel to Turkey with their passports once the said period expires.
