A Norwegian women whose been living in the United Arab Emirates for the last couple of years by the name of Marte Deborah Dalelv was facing 16 months in jail for reporting she was raped by a co-worker after a celebration with her co-workers at a hotel. She woke up the next morning and was being raped and room service knocked at the door and then she escaped. She went to the lobby to report the incident the police arrived and asked her "Are you sure you called the police because you just didn't like it?". She was arrested and was charged with having sex outside of marriage which is punishable in law due to the country being a theocratic sharia law based government. And in sharia law for a rape to be not considered adultery you need four male witnesses. There have been cases where women have been brutally raped in these countries and due to the sharia law governance the victim is too blame leading to many rape victims not reporting what happens. Thankfully due to international pressure she was pardoned but here rapist who was supposed to receive thirteen months in jail for alcohol and sex outside of marriage was also pardoned. And he wasn't even charged with rape. This is a gross injustice and after hearing this story a women would have to be out her mind to visit any theocratic country especially those that follow sharia law.
