In this video, #AmitBhawani shares the review of the #NothingEar1 TWS earbuds. Today I have finally got my hands on the Nothing Ear 1 and honestly I have both good & bad experiences with my unit.
DEAD ON ARRIVAL?
First off, time for a disclaimer. The team at Nothing had mentioned me that these are pre-production devices and there might be chances that I could encounter issues and they are ready for help. Within first few hours of unboxing itself, I found that the Earphones are not working, but before talking more about it, lets first look at the package.
APP - This is something you don't really need to use the product but if you install it you can tweak the settings easily and have better controls over the product. The App has a very refreshing UI that helps you in going through all the options starting off with pairing and then customising the gesture options. First look you can check the battery status and tapping on Hear would take you to the screen where you can Enable / Disable the Noise Cancellation or even reduce it. The same applies for the Transparency mode along with an Equaliser option that's super useful especially because it allows you to listen to music either with more treble, more base or voice enhancement.
COMFORT - If you have been watching my thoughts about earphones, I always mention about comfort as my #1 priority over everything else and this is why I had even suggested to stay away from the Hyped OnePlus Earphones. This one has kind of the exact implementation of the AirPods Pro with a silicon top on it that makes sure its perfectly fit. But that's on the desk, there are a few people who are runners and want to know if they stay while you jog, then I can say they do, they are decent enough but not that great as they cannot replace the Neckband models that are the best for runners but still these fit perfectly and you can enjoy listening to music or answer calls for hours every day.
BATTERY - Nothing has promised a total of 34 hours of listening but in reality what we get is 4 hours of battery when listening to music at around 70-75% volume but this little case is a little power bank and we can keep extending the battery upto 34 hours with ANC OFF or 24 hours with ANC ON. The case can also be charged wirelessly and overall we shouldn't face any battery issues.
MUSIC QUALITY - The Ear 1 comes with a 11.6mm Dynamic Driver that offers with a good bass and also the clarity in music is pretty good. I have been using the AirPods Pro from over a year and can tell you that there isn't much I would complain especially when the product costs just Rs 6000 while the AirPods Pro costs at least 3 times and this is quite close honestly speaking.
CALL QUALITY - The Ear 1 comes with 3 high def mic along with AI Powered Environmental Noise Cancellation that makes sure you get a good call experience and while using it for a full day answering calls we didn't face any bad experience. Quite good for answering calls.
MY THOUGHTS -
Noise cancellation experience - These earphones offer a good experience, while the app has some useful features like Find my earbud that helps you in finding it easily but lets first talk about the issues I faced with my unit. The Ear 1 didn't pair directly with my iPhone 12 mini and I had to remove, unpair multiple times but nothing worked out. Next up downloaded the app on the OnePlus 9 Pro and it paired but only one earphone while the second one didn't work. Gave it a full charger, firmware updated and yet no change but suddenly after 2 days the earphone started working with the iPhone 12 mini and this was with frequently one earplug getting discontinued. Again, as mentioned earlier this could be because this isa preproduction unit and the PR team had already mentioned about shipping a replacement but I thought to share my honest feedback with you that I had gone through.
Overall these are one of the best earphones I can suggest at this price point though apart from the concept and unique approach in terms of design, I wish they didn't keep the case transparent. That said, I did notice that they suddenly pause while playing music and again resume and I guess they can be because its a pre-production device or its a software issue that can be fixed.
