And so, in this stage, Mario takes on the last holdout of the Koopalings, and in this game, it's the usual: Ludwig von Koopa. He seems to be the most popular of the Koopalings, so I guess that's why he's saved for last. As usual, his castle is the most open-air of the Koopalings' castles, with a full view of the clouds and hills beyond. If it weren't for all the fast-moving death traps and enemies, it'd be kind of peaceful.

As you can see here, the Sledge Bros. are quite the threat. Their butt-stomps will paralyze Mario for a while, usually enough for one of those gear-shifting columns to catch up to Mario and shove him clear into a pit. I lost many a Mario to them, both Mini and normal. How come other enemies aren't stunned? Are they just used to the Sledge Bros. hanging around and thus it no longer surprises them?

Ludwig is by far the toughest Koopaling to deal with as Mini Mario. He's fast, his attacks cover a good deal of the screen, and his Shadow Clone Jutsu means you must figure out which one is the real one while not getting so distracted as to forget Mini Mario is in the path of a blue fireball. The real one, by the way, shoots three fireballs instead of two and is always the last one to drop down. But Mini Mario's so slow, he needs to be ready nearby already, so you can't just rely on that secondary cue. Once he's hit once, he and his clones will start jumping around like a shell game. Once he's hit twice, they'll shuffle about in the air too.

By the way, in the background, you can see Peach's Castle surrounded by a giant twister of sorts. I forget why there's an airship flying around it though.
