Numen Contest of Heroes gameplay Steam Deck OLED performance test [Docked]
There are a lot of videos on YT with various games tested on Steam Deck. Most of them present the footage of the screen and how the game looks ON Steam Deck. Some people, however, use their Steam Deck as a desktop PC or a regular console. My tests intend to show how the game looks and performs on an external screen, in full HD (not in 4k for performance reasons) with certain scaling options.
Here's another obscure game from the yesteryear. To be honest, I have a dark past. Back in the day, piracy in my country was flourishing and rarely people at my age (or any age to be honest) had the money to buy or opportunity to even find games, movies, books to buy. Torrents were your best choice. And as part of such reality, there was a time I would consume anything that was uploaded on my favorite torrent site. Like any game, regardless of the genre, graphics, quality. Numen Contest of Heroes is one of the games I discovered through random torrents and I remember that I played it for a while but didn't reach the ending. It had strange vibes of a singleplayer MMORPG; the icons, the quests, the graphics resembled one of the many Korean online games I played at that time. Maybe that is why it stuck with me for years. That is why I wanted to try it out on Steam Deck the other day and it proved to be very tricky to play. The game would launch but the menus wouldn't work. Or the cinematics wouldn't work. There was always an issue or two. Finally, after many tests I found the proper way to start the game: GE-Proton7-55 is the answer :) Maybe other Proton versions work as well but if you want to play this game on your Steam Deck, I highly recommend installing this particular custom version of Proton.
NOTE: Bear in mind that this is recorded in the docked mode, meaning the performance might always be a bit lower than in the regular handheld mode due to the scaling, etc.
