Nvidia has released a significant update to its free Broadcast app, bringing impressive audio enhancements and a few other interesting (and sometimes unsettling) features. The star of the show is "Studio Voice," a new feature that dramatically improves the quality of even the worst built-in microphones. A demonstration with a Logitech webcam showed remarkable noise reduction and clarity, making the audio surprisingly good.
This update also includes "Virtual Key Light," designed to provide even lighting for video calls. While initial tests suggest it's less impactful than Studio Voice, it aims to simulate professional lighting. Nvidia has also refined its existing "Eye Contact" feature, which allows users to maintain eye contact with the camera even when looking elsewhere. A demonstration combined this feature with Virtual Key Light, showcasing its potential, though the effect can be a bit uncanny.
These new features, particularly Virtual Key Light, are resource-intensive. Nvidia recommends an RTX 4080 or 5090 and advises against using them while gaming. Even an RTX 3070 struggles, especially with the key light feature, and while Studio Voice works, it consumes significant VRAM.
Beyond the new additions, Nvidia claims improvements to existing features like Background Noise Removal, Eye Contact (with added gaze stability and natural eye movements), and Virtual Background (with better foreground/background separation). The Nvidia Broadcast app, available for download here, continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in audio and video for content creators and everyday users alike.
