Nvidia Driver R551.40 vs R537.56: Big FPS Drop in GOTG, Minor Impact on Cyberpunk

Are we upgrading to the new nvidia driver r551.40? Nope.

We had planned to play a new game, but Nvidia installed a new driver. We benchmarked it against the older driver and found the following:

Guardians of the Galaxy (GOTG):
The new driver significantly lowers FPS (27% decrease).
Stick with the old driver for smoother gameplay.
Some background updates happened which skewed the CPU max time in run 1, and we didn't want to repeat the tests anymore hehe.
The new driver effectively doubled the GPU time for the average and maximum for GOTG.
We were thinking that the new driver honored the Vsync setting in the Nvidia Control Panel, while the older one did not, which explained the maximum of 217 fps. However, in Run 2, it also did 126 fps, so it really appears to be a significant decrease in fps instead.

Cyberpunk 2077:
Both drivers offer similar average FPS (around 55-58).
New driver might have slightly lower FPS but could offer other improvements (stability, visuals).
Choice depends on what's more important: high FPS or other potential benefits.

Overall:
New driver reduces GOTG performance significantly.
New driver offers minimal impact on Cyberpunk, potentially with visual improvements.
This analysis focuses on these two games, and the optimal driver might differ based on your specific needs and game library.

For the new game we are playing, we will stick with the older driver.
