Obelix Longplay (Atari 2600 Game) -

Obelix is a 1983 video game developed and published by Atari for the Atari 2600, based on the characters created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. The player controls Asterix while Obelix moves autonomously across the top of the screen carrying menhirs.

The objective is to stun Roman legionnaires and centurions by running into them, causing them to turn white, then coordinate with Obelix's movement so he drops a menhir on the stunned enemies. Successfully hitting a stunned Roman scores points displayed in Roman numerals, with faster-moving enemies providing higher scores. Centurions are worth twice the points of legionnaires.

If a menhir misses its target, the stunned Roman turns red and becomes dangerous, requiring Asterix to either escape to a lower level or collect magic potion dropped by Getafix for temporary invincibility. Movement between lanes is restricted to red footbridges.

The game was programmed by Suki Lee with graphics by Dave Jolly and audio by Andrew Fuchs and Jeff Gusman. Released shortly after a similar title called Asterix, it utilized the same licensing agreement but featured different gameplay mechanics that required coordination with an AI-controlled partner, which was relatively uncommon for home console games in 1983.
