Ocean Trader is a trading game set in the 19th Century where you own a sailing Barque and you must sail between five ports around the English and Welsh coast to make £500000. Your base is in Swansea with £480 and a loan of £4600, and you can buy up to 50 units of various goods like General, Arms (illegal), Coal, Whiskey and Bullion (illegal). Once you have brought your cargo you can set sail for the ports of Liverpool, Southampton, London and Newcastle but you may encounter hazards on your voyage.

Hazards that can be encountered are storms, fog and Pirates but you can arm your ship with cannons at a cost but these can prove to be unreliable. Occasionally you may encounter abandoned ships but some may be used as a trick by Pirates. If you collide with another ship then your ship will have to be towed to the nearest port but for the cost of £500 and if you don't have the money then you will be impounded and it is game over. Once you reach your destination you can then sell your cargo and buy more but you will also receive bills that need paying.
