When you don't upgrade weapons you miss out on the stats the upgrade gives but more importantly, you lose out on skills. That means my Axe and Blades only have level-one skills. The Spear starts at level 5 when you get it so I only have the level 5 skills for it. Since I'm using only the starter gear I'm using the Survival set and the Guardian Shield which is level 4 when you get it back from the Dwarfs.
This second fight is much harder than the first. In the second phase of the fight, a lot is going on. Hazards cover the ground constantly. He also leaves behind the orbs when he moves and then attacks you instantly. So you need to destroy it fast. The spear is really good for dealing with all aspects of both the fights with Odin. The fact that Odin has Bifrost as his element makes the spear very strong for this fight.
In this fight, I used all 9 Burdens and all the starter gear. I did this fight again with all 9 Burdens and all the Spartan gear including the Aspis shield. I think I am going to do that for most fights. You can go a lot harder with the starter gear because the Guardian shield is an easier-to-use shield.
