Boss Rush Challenge Level 1 No Upgrades & Starter Gear Only No Relic or Rage New Game GMGOW Ragnarok
7This was an experiment more than anything else. I wanted to get an idea of what the Level 1 Muspelheim Trials would be like. I did it on New Game since the enemy level is lower and the Burdens are not available. I don't know how far I will take this. Some of these are possible like the Boss Rush. Others are possible but will be very boring and drawn out due to needing to play very safely. Others seem impossible. If I do keep going I doubt I will keep my self-imposed "No Relic or Rage" rule.
For the Boss Rush Challenge, I'm mostly happy with how it turned out. They all have a lot of health for a level one to deal with. The final two bosses especially have a lot. I don't like how safe I played on the last enemy but just getting to him without making a single mistake was already a big enough pain to endure. Since 2018 I have gotten quite good at fighting Travelers so the first boss wasn't much of an issue. The Stalker is fast enough to cause problems. Most runs died to her. The Dark Elf never fights straight up so beating him with the spear at range was the best way to beat him. For The Light Elf, I used a trick on her that I learned fighting story boss Alva. Sonic Arrows cause a guaranteed stun. She attacks so fast and none of them can be blocked so that was very helpful. However, Freya can miss so I lost a few because of that. The Einherjar Captain has a few attacks that can cause major problems like the very fast spinning attack. I stayed within a "dead zone" of his to keep him at range but he won't teleport right away. It kept it safer to minimize the risk.
When you don't upgrade weapons you miss out on the stats the upgrade gives but more importantly, you lose out on skills. That means my Axe and Blades only have level-one skills. The Spear starts at level 5 when you get it so I only have the level 5 skills for it. Since I'm using only the starter gear I'm using the Survival set and the Guardian Shield which is level 4 when you get it back from the Dwarfs.
