Offline Bots MOD (Local Server Gameplay) - Day of Defeat: Source
So here's yet another mod showcase for a Valve game that never got any official bot support by Valve themselves, for legendary DoD:S!
You've probably seen this mod already at somepoint, if you've been a longtime player of Day of Defeat: Source or if you've been on Youtube long enough in the past. The mod itself allowing for really convenient bots to play against while offline, with their AI even being able to plant bombs and such, depending on maps of mission. Though.. if you're not a DoD:S player before, just like me; don't worry, I'll try to provide more information on this further as much I can.
See, while this mod has been pretty well known in the community, the information itself of an "official mod website" for RCBot2 for Day of Defeat: Source is a bit confusing, at least for me personally; as the mod has evolved and been maintained by different individuals over time. However, it isn't too confusing. Nevertheless, here are... what I can see are key places to look for information on RcBot and downloads, and other stuff:
SourceForge (Original Project):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/rcbot2/
This is where Cheeseh, the original creator, hosted the project. You'll find the core files and older releases here.
dodbits.com (Community Maintained / Installers):
https://www.dodbits.com/dods/index.php/dods/rcbot2-for-dod-s/
This website, maintained by a user named "INsane [dodbits]", has become a very important resource for DoD:S players looking to install and use RCBot2. They offer updated installers, waypoint packs, and detailed guides that address common issues and the game's evolving compatibility. This is often the most recommended place for getting a working version of RCBot2 for DoD:S, especially with the challenges posed by recent game updates. You'll find direct download links for their installer and waypoint packs there.
APGRoboCop's GitHub (Fork/Development):
https://github.com/APGRoboCop/rcbot2
This is a fork of the original RCBot2 project, actively maintained by APGRoboCop. While it's more geared towards developers and those who want the latest beta builds or to compile from source, it's a significant hub for ongoing development and bug fixes. You might find information and discussions here that aren't on the other sites.
Bots United Forums:
http://rcbot.bots-united.com/forums/
This forum was historically a central place for RCBot discussions, including those for DoD:S. While activity might vary, it can still contain valuable archives of troubleshooting, discussions, and waypoint links.
PS: The version I'm playing is from the dodbits.com website by, once again, the user INsane. This, based on my gameplay, is pretty straightforward. Just install and it would do the rest. If you'd like to uninstall, it definitely has the option and it would put your Day of Defeat: Source copy back to when didn't install it at first.
PPS: Apologies for the noticeably laggy framerate on this video, for some reason Fraps was acting up and I couldn't get it to straighten itself compared to my other records so this was the best footage I could get, hopefully this can be fixed in the future.
