Old School Runescape Ep.172 - Song of the Elves Part 1
1Welcome one and all to a grand adventure of mines on what many Brits here consider to be a classic MMORPG that brings forth fond and fun memories, where I'll be showcasing all sorts of moments in this most exciting commentated series of videos of the world of Gielinor created by Cambridge's own Jagex!
Ahhh, here we go for the third of the Grandmaster quests for Old School Runescape, and the very last one at that thus far! (Indeed, there's no signs of a fourth Grandmaster quest coming any time soon as of the recording and, later on, the publishing of this video here, no Desert Treasure 2 nor any other grandeur and arduous quest to be looking forward to in the year that is 2021 sadly)
So, the first one concerned the apes and monkeys over at Marimbo/Ape Atoll and the Gnomes alongside one of the big bads of Gielinor himself, the former Glough who mutated himself into a monstrous giant as a last resort using that Zenyte mutagen, whilst the second focused more on the iconic part of Runescape concerning fierce dragons and the fun aspect of slaying them in true fashion ala what is arguably the most dangerous quest boss fought against thus far in the form of the special Red Dragon that is Galvek and his Dragonkin partner Zorgoth! (Unfortunately they forgot to cut off and take Galvek's draconic head with them as a most worthy prize to show off like in the first Dragon Slayer when concerning Elvarg, but alas!)
Now how can this be topped off in this third high-difficulty quest here, Song of the Elves, which I might add it is probably just a touch obvious as to what this next series of videos will largely be focusing on here? (Though to be fair, the 'Monkey' in Monkey Madness 2 and the 'Dragon' in Dragon Slayer 2 doesn't leave much room for guessing as it's arguably just as blunt as this quest's fine name here!)
Well before getting to the good stuff, as we always find is built up gradually over the course of the whole quest, we first start off in East Ardougne once more ala Elena's father at his house near the ominous other half of Ardougne, where it is found that Elena's managed to get herself captured once more before we even started the first quest in this lengthy series here, Plague City! (If memory serves me correctly, Plague City's the first one, then comes Biohazard followed by the notorious Underground Pass, after that is the memorable Regicide followed by the not-so-memorable Mourning's End Part I and II before FINALLY getting to this most grand finale here!)
It goes without saying that we need to go rescue here, hence where a much-desired 'costume' of sorts by the community finally has a legitimate part to play in this game here, where one is required to disguise themselves as a knight of the fine Ardougne by dyeing a Steel Full Helm's plume from that standard purple colour to a more Ardougne-esque red one, then have a tabard made by the mother of Elena to match those what the knights wear with their Steel Platebody and finally having the Steel Platelegs 'polished' to make them just the right kind of texture when compared to the NPC and all! (I suspect all those memes about those highly unaware Ardougne Knights CONSTANTLY being pickpocketed has left quite the impression on the OSRS Redditors at any rate!)
After all that shenanigans comes the rescue itself, which is only a tad more complex than the first time around as Elena herself requires some chemicals in the form of some Clear Liquid vial, the problem of which is that we're unable to identify them directly as our Gielinor adventurer didn't take up Chemistry as a profession, (though having such a high Herblore level would prove that somewhat contradictory, but I reckon that's gaming logic for you!) so we need to heed the advice of her father to correctly take the right vial for the job, which she uses said vial that is Sulphuric Acid to melt an iron grate leading into the sewers for her to route around back to rendezvous and all.
Then comes a meeting with the local resistance brewing in the underground of West Ardougne, who comes up with the most cunning, if a tad dishonest, plan that is putting pressure on the Ardougne King ala making use of that Ardougne Knight disguise in East Ardougne alongside the Mourner set from the first part of Mourning's End to spread chaos and distrust amongst the authorities and their monarchy leader by means of ruining much-valued produce, raising taxes even higher and much-unneeded 'training' among other unreasonable actions to raise favour for the resistance, seeing how Elena's tactic of being honest and outspoken didn't work so well!
Thus the fun begins, though it should be said that our stay in Ardougne here isn't going to last much longer, for this is only the introduction setting for the overall quest at large here which, seeing how it concerns Elves in general, should be clear enough where it's headed towards!
