After passing through Peaceful Rest Valley,Ness ends up at Happy Happy Village. The people here seem to be under some kind of mass hypnotism,following the strange religion of the Happy Happiest Cultists and their leader,Mr. Carpainter. They seem to think painting everything blue will solve all of life's problems,the weirdos. You can buy a Sand Lot Bat for Ness at the Drug Store,and rest for 50 bucks at the house next to a blue cow. There's also a "shop",selling Bananas and Eggs. If you take anything without paying,the nearby Unassuming Local Guy will attack. You can load up on free Eggs,and make a profit selling Chickens! Heading north through a cave,Ness finds the cabin where Paula is being held captive. She gives you the Franklin Badge,needed to deflect lightning bolts/thunder attacks. Outside,Pokey shows up and sics some of those Insane Cultists on you. Back in the village,we now have to enter the town hall,flooded with those Cultists. Make your way through them,and then you'll take on their lead Mr. Carpainter. Notice that gold statue behind him...Anyway,with the Franklin Badge he won't be much of a threat. Defeating him nets you the Cabin Key,and then Paula will join your party!
