On the Wednesday Set with THING!
554Are you excited to get all of Wednesday’s hidden secrets about how Thing was created? In Netflix’s hit show, Wednesday, Victor Dorabantu plays the role of Wednesday Addams’ severed companion, Thing. Did you know that this was Victor’s first acting gig? He’s a magician by trade! Back in the 90s, Christopher Hart – who is also a magician – played the iconic role! The reason why they wanted to get magicians to audition for the part was due to the look of their hands as well as how nimble they were. It makes sense given how much Thing walks around the set and gets into things he shouldn’t. There were also some major difficulties and set backs when creating the character. For instance, Victor’s body had to be camouflaged as much as possible, because painting out the majority of his body was not an easy task for the special effects team. Often times they would put him under beds, behind Jenna Ortega, or even awkwardly around corners. It was important that the actor who played Thing was young and nimble enough to fit into this strange positions all the time. Victor also spent hours in make up getting his hand quaffed to perfection – we’ve got some incredible behind the scenes footage that shows his transformation into Thing. You wouldn’t think he would need so long in make up, but with how much detail goes into making his hand look the way we see on screen, there are a lot of details that could be easily overlooked.
