Skyrim ist der fünfte Hauptteil der "The Elder Scrolls"-Reihe und ein klassisches westliches Rollenspiel, in welchem man die Rolle des sogenannten Dovahkiin übernimmt, eines Charakter in welchem das Blut der Drachen fließt und der von der Prophezeihung dazu vorhergesehen ist, Alduin, den Weltenfresser, einen mächtigen Drachen, zu bezwingen und somit wieder Frieden über Tamriel und im Endeffekt auch ganz Nirn zu bringen.

Das Spiel lässt einem dabei große Freiheiten in der Erforschung der Welt, der Beginn ist zwar standardmäßig vorgeschrieben, aber nach diesem (oder durch diverse Mods) kann man die Welt nach eigenem Gutdünken durchwandern wie man will, dabei die Hauptquest und das Erscheinen der Drachen auch komplett vermeiden und trotzdem hunderte von Stunden an Quests erleben.

Seinerzeit war das Spiel ein massiver Erfolg, der zum Teil bis heute anhält, so ist Skyrim eines der am häufigsten auf andere Systeme portierten Spiele.

Skyrim is the fifth main installment in the "Elder Scrolls"-franchise and a classic western role playing game, in which the player takes the role of the Dovahkiin, a character which has the blood of dragons flowing through his veins and who is chosen by prophecy to defeat Alduin, The World Eater, a mighty dragon and by doing so restore peace over Tamriel and effectively all of Nirn.

The game offers the player vast freedom in exploring the world. Though the beginning of the game is set, but afterwards (or by changing it via mods) the player can explore the world as desired, even completely ignoring the main quest and preventing dragons from ever appearing and still experience hundreds of hours of quests.

The game was a critical success at its time, partially lasting to this day, for example in Skyrim being one of the most often ported games to other systems.
