Now here's something really cool.
One of the (first?) shmups made with the newly released SHMUP Creator on Steam.
SHMUP Creator is a make-your-own shmup maker from bulo studio. One of its main selling points is that you don't need to know any code to make shmups with it, it's all done in the in-game editor. So basically anybody can make a shmup with it. Advanced users will probably find the options you have pretty limiting, but if you can already make something like this with it that's already really impressive. Especially since this is still an early version of the software.
Another really great thing about this creator is that it supports higher refresh rates. I played this at 180 hertz and the game felt incredibly smooth to control.

As a reflection of the creator, OPEN ARMS MAXIMUM is a very hard game.
Very fast bullet patterns and crazy pace, some nasty RNG in places too.

Your shot is crazy powerful at pointblank, so you're incentivized to get up in enemy's faces as much as possible. The scoring system also revolves around letting enemies fill the screen with bullets before finishing them off. Really good risk-reward implementation all around.
The game is really good. The speed and pacing is top-notch and the scoring system is really fun. Every enemy you kill will cancel its bullets and basically every enemy will shoot additional patterns for you to cancel if you let them live for a bit. Bosses also periodically shoot a bunch of bullets to the sides that you want to time the bosskill with.

You get 5 hits per life and you can replenish a hit with a shield powerup. You'll need them because the game is quite crazy. You get some i-frames after a hit, but not that many. There are no bombs in this.
The UI says you have 5 lives but the 0 doesn't count here, so it's more like 4 lives.

Some silly hits at the start here but it didn't really matter since you can easily recover those anyway.
