Our trip into the Queue today brings us to Open Roads, a narrative adventure game that uncovers hidden secrets and family relationships.

I love a good walking simulator, assuming it brings enough narrative investment into the picture. I recently played Return to Grace, and loved the experience. Open Roads is...a different sort of game. It has more in common with games like Gone Home, if only because most of the narrative is buried in documents and items you pick up around you. So you can either uncover a lot or very little.

The biggest disappointment, though, might be in the hand-drawn animation. It has a cool look to it, but the style is only in the human characters, with them existing in a standard 3D environment. Plus, the hand drawn animation seems to only exist for specific poses, rather than full cutscenes - the lips don't even move during dialogue. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

Also, Open Roads has a lot of characters hiding things from each other, so it doesn't exhibit the best examples of personal relationships. It makes you want to scold the whole family.
