BRT Gate Cars on the V Train, a long defunct subway line.

The BRT Gate Cars, classified as the BUs, were one of the first ever built subway cars for NYC. The cars were built in 1903 and retired by 1924, after safety concerns and numerous accidents such as the Malbone Street wreck of 1918. The BRT collapsed and became the BMT, and also the era of wooden subway cars were put to an end in favor of steel ones. Most BUs still survive in museums such as the NYTM and Seashore Trolley.

This run would actually be prohibited in real life since the gate cars are delicate, being made of wood, unless the train goes outside. If they did go underground, steel cars would be required to tow them, and all passengers must not ride in the gate cars at that time. I would call this a wacky run therefore, but the gate cars really did run in NYC for reals.

The V train was introduced in late 2001 upon completion of the 63rd Street tunnel extension to Queens Blvd, rerouting the F train to it's current route. It ran from Houston 2nd Ave to 71st & Continential Avenues in Forest Hills only on weekdays, almost similar to the M train. Because of budget cuts, the V was discontinued in 2010, with the new orange M train taking it's place. At the time of the V train, there wasn't a 2 way transfer at Broadway-Lafayette St and Bleecker St staions on the 6 (it was only a downtown bound transfer). 3 years later after the V was gone, the brand new transfer was opened.

The era of 2009 also marked the end for the R38s, R40s, R40Ms, and R44s (except those on the SIR) as they were scrapped by then and dumped out to sea, not including the R44s. Some R32s and R42s were also scrapped but many remained in service up until 2020 (R42 retirement) to 2022 (R32 Retirement). The W train was also discontinued but was back in service by 2018.
