Feeling more confident following the unexpectedly immense success of Sleeping Beauty on Home Video in the 1987 Holiday Season, Walt Disney Home Video opted to release two of their premium animated films for the 1988 calendar year, beginning with the release of Peter Pan, to commemorate the film's 35th anniversary, which was released in the Spring of 1988. The film was yet another smash success on Home Video, selling approximately 4.5 million cassettes.
