Operation Dual Wielder (Mission 3) - Ace Combat 7 In Real Time
Two Ace Combat games, in two different universes, are set in 2019. We'll be following the events of both as they happen, to the day and hour (UTC).
The Lighthouse calls for us - the beacon beckons. But when has air superiority ever come easy in Ace Combat? We may be hell for our enemies, but they'll sure make us work for it.
I find it fantastic that in such a narrow concept as airborne fortresses, Project Aces keeps finding novel ideas. I have to commend the Arsenal Bird's designers: it's the most visually impressive airship in Ace Combat so far. Its forerunners, the Hresvelgr, Aigaion, etc had extremely aggressive looks - sharp edges, black steel, guns ablaze. But with its color, shape and dozens of flaps, the Arsenal Birds looks almost angelic in comparison to the black or steel, sharp edges of its forerunners.
But it's no biblical angel - more one from Evangelion (Arael, specifically). It rains death upon its vicinity without even the slightest *reaction* to it: not even a twitch, no evasive maneuvers, not even any wail as it suffers damage. The props make sense being electric-powered, but they they also add to the intimidation, contrasting with its overall shape. The missile salvos are perfectly coordinated, the drone release is awe-inspiring, and the active protection system looks hallowed (and like an AT field). Who needs plagues or floods, this is what god would send to smite us. And I'd be scared of it... if I didn't know that in Strangereal, nothing surpasses the single fighter. *Nothing*.
I'm not typically one to take late aircraft to early missions, but the F-35C fit well here for a number of reasons. First, I need a naval aircraft for the only "normal" carrier action in the game. Second, I want to use the others elsewhere, and there's more top tiers than missions that need them in AC7. And third, the game lends itself well to it - there's early missions like this that give top tiers mileage (AMRAAM spam ahoy), and later missions (13/14/16/18) you can do with just about any aircraft). And how can I say no to mixing it up?
