This is a scenario that comes with the standard Orbiter 2010 installation. It's the "Atlantis docked at ISS" scenario in the Space Shuttle Atlantis folder.

In this video, I am back with the Space Shuttle Atlantis, once again trying to learn how to deorbit and land. This was another failure, but with each failed attempt I feel one step closer to understanding the whole process.

Getting the Space Shuttle down and on target is not the challenge. The challenge is bringing it down without pulling ridiculously high G's.

In this second attempt, I learned that deorbiting a full orbit ahead of time is a bit much. It takes a really long time to bring the Shuttle down this way, and I ran out of energy before I made it to the base. In the next attempt, I'll split the difference and do the deorbit burn when I am 3/4's around.

Common questions I get: What screen recording software do you use? What joystick do you use? What add-ons do you use? Where can I find the XR2 Ravenstar? Where do I download Orbiter? And much, much more. It's all answered in the FAQ I set up at this link (the link is a google document):
