In 1969 the original Monarchs recording group disbanded. The name of the Monarchs continued on with other personnel. In late 1969 the four original vocalists were called together for the purpose of recording five tunes for the Mercury label. Because the name "The Monarchs" was being used, Mercury released their first single under the name The O. G.'s. The remaining songs were released under the name The Original Group.
