It might be prosaic,
that is to say
when you're waiting it feels
life is slipping away

"They said ten," he thinks,
his watch catching the lie
and like woodlice in logs
he is squirming inside

They were in traffic.
He hopes they can ring
and like ice cream the thought
some solace can bring

As the ticks turn to tocks
the dream's melting away
He turns his face slowly,
it's beginning to rain
