OSOM OV1 | Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and OLED (2022)
OSOM has revealed that its upcoming OV1 smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's brand new flagship chip. For the past few years, Qualcomm has announced a mid-year refresh of its flagship mobile processor. This new variant carries the suffix “Plus” and usually has its CPU and GPU overclocked.
The OV1 will be the first smartphone from OSOM, a company created by former employees of Essential Inc. The manufacturer intends to provide users with a smartphone running a modified version of Android with a strong focus on privacy .
Shortly after Qualcomm unveiled its new chipset, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, OSOM announced that its first device will be powered by the new chip when it arrives later in 2022. The mobile tech startup has its first smartphone that should arrive at the end of the year and it will be launched under the name of OSOM Ov1. Previously, OSOM revealed that the phone will be powered by an 8-series Snapdragon chip, but didn't specify which it would be.
The manufacturer has already revealed that the phone will be made from premium materials. The screen will be covered in Gorilla Glass Victus, the frame will be stainless steel, the back will be ceramic instead of glass, and the buttons will be titanium. While OSOM previously confirmed that the OV1 will have an OLED display with a high refresh rate, the dimensions of the screen remain unknown.
The company is also keeping the battery capacity a secret, but said the phone will last more than a day. The OV1 will also support wired charging (USB Power Delivery) via a USB-C port and the included USB-C cable will have a kill switch that disables data transfer when charging in public outlets. Official photos provided by OSOM show that there will be two rear cameras – a 48MP primary sensor and a 12MP secondary camera. There will also be a 16MP front camera.
Unfortunately, while it will have 5G, it won't support mmWave. There's also no eSIM, although it does support dual SIM and NFC. While the price of the phone likely won't be known to the public until launch, OSOM has previously said it won't break the $1,000 mark.
