The arcade Sega Chihiro version of Outrun 2 (Beta) running on the latest version of CXBXR, original Xbox emulator, with added graphical improvement using DXVK. DXVK "is a Vulkan-based translation layer for Direct3D 9/10/11 which allows running 3D applications on Linux using Wine".

Now, I haven't got the foggiest idea what that means, but in practice it's a bunch of .dll files you stick in the same folder as your CXBXR EXE and it significantly improves the graphics in the Chihiro version of Outrun 2. It makes the previously invisible road solid, which also has the effect of then stopping all the cars having the weird LSD tracery effects going on. It's amazing how much this has improved from the earliest version I tried a few years back. In the very first version, the game would crash after the car selection screen before the 1st stage would load. In the earliest playable version, the game ran at about 15fps for me, with some seriously f'd up graphics. Now, it seems like it's only the shadows under the car and some lighting ehffects that need improving.

Although you can play a pretty perfect, with added content and gameplay, version of Outrun 2 SPDX in Teknoparrot, I'm always interested in keeping an eye on how things are developing with the original arcade Chihiro version. It's the only version of Outrun 2 with a unique Ferrari Testarossa, that was different in its design to how it’s subsequently appeared in all the other arcade and home versions of Outrun 2 since then. There are also a few billboards that look a bit different in the opening stage too. My driving's a bit twitchy here, owing to the fact that the game was designed to be used with a steering wheel and I'm using a joypad.
