Over Horizon (NES/FC) - Full Run ALL Clear (First Attempt!)
Full Run of Over Horizon (オーバーホライゾン) for the NES/Famicom! This was my very first time playing the game and I cleared it on my first attempt (aka "blind clear"). I played this using a Famicom AV with the real cart.

Over Horizon is yet another in the long list of great shmups for the Famicom that never made it onto the NES in the US (the was a PAL release however). I'm really not sure why it never made it over except that maybe the content was a little strange? Perhaps it was just that everyone had moved onto the SNES by 1991.
Any way this is another side-scroller where you can collect different powerups for your main weapon in addition to options that surround your ship. The main gimmick of the game is that you can fire both in front and behind your ship depending on which button you use, and you will definitely need to utilize this ability.
Since this was my first (and only, as of writing this) time playing through the game I can't really say much about what the best weapon is although I tended to stick to the homing weapon. One of the things I immediately noticed is that it seems like the homing weapon induces heavy slowdown in areas of the game, so I certainly used that to my advantage.
When I did a little more research on the game after finishing it I was led to believe that the laser was actually the best weapon in the game. In addition to that, apparently you can also move your options around into different formations by hitting both A+B at the same time? Lol, I had no idea, although I can't really see i making much of a difference in the difficulty, but perhaps it does help in a few sections.
The graphics and music and overall production design in this game is fantastic, with the bio-alien themed levels and bosses really standing out. Several of the bosses are very large and take up significant portions of the screen, something that you don't often see in NES games.
After clearing Over Horizon you are left with the impression that there will be a sequel, which unfortunately never happened.
