S.C.A.T. / SCAT (NES) - Full Run with No Deaths
Full no death run of S.C.A.T. (Special Cybernetic Attack Team) for the NES/Famicom. This game is also known as Final Mission (ファイナルミッション) in Japan, and Action in New York for PAL regions. Damn, that's a lot of names! This was played on a real NES with real cart.

SCAT (haha) is basically a shmup version of Contra, at least it reminds me heavily of that game despite the lack of aliens. Also I swear it reuses some of the graphics and sound effects from Contra despite being developed by Natsume instead of Konami.
You can pick between 2 characters, Arnold and Sigourney (yeah...not exactly a subtle reference), and it seems both characters play the same. I guess this was mainly for the 2 player mode. Your objective is to fly around the screen and kill everything in sight.
So the main gimmick of the game revolves around using the options that surround your hero. They have 2 modes of operation, rotating or fixed. Fixed is pretty much preferable at all times since you can arrange them depending on the situation you are facing.
There are only a few powerups, most of which are for using different types of weapons. I find that the wave shot is easily the best, the others are not worth it. There are also speed ups (grab as many as you can), and a life refill/increase which shows up right before the boss of each level. Speaking of which, you have a life bar in this game instead of traditional lives, although it essentially functions the same. Lose your lifebar, and it's game over.
That's pretty much it, SCAT is a decent game with an average difficulty and length, a good soundtrack and nice, clean graphics. It's not one of the best games on the NES/Famicom, but it's a solid title everyone should try, especially for fans of Contra.
