Here's a (very rough) test-pilot (plus introduction) for a new show-concept we're kicking around: "GAMEWATCH" (title may not be final), a combination of podcast and "live"-riff based around video games.
My basic thinking here was: Part of the animating idea behind the original MST3K was that "riffing" bad movies grew out of said films serving as half-watched "reference point" entertainment during otherwise rambling livingroom hangouts; and a thinking that groups of people watching playthroughs of classic (or new, but for now mainly "classic") videogames could have a similar energy since by their nature games will feature repetitive stretches (where conversations can diverge into depths and tangents) punctuated by moments of action and/or WTF-ery to shake things up.
This version (and a second test, forthcoming) was put together fairly quickly with help from by brother and sister in-law Chris and Sarah of the Creating Geeks Podcast (link below), and went off without much incident - I ended up fixing some needed audio/video trims with "factoid" pop-ins that might become a regular feature if this goes to series - Ideally I want to feature a variety of friends and colleagues here, but I hope you'll agree Chris and Sarah are a welcome presence and bring a fun dynamic.
See below for info on us, the game footage featured, etc. If and when we end up doing more of these my HOPE is to specifically solicit playthroughs of interesting/obscure stuff at some point, but we're not there quite yet. I hope you like it and that we end up doing more of it. -- Bob
