Overview Of Childhood Abuse & Trauma - Psychotherapy Crash Course
Did you know that in 2015 there were about 4 million referral/reports of abuse to child protective services (CPS) in the United States?
More than 2.2 million were assessed for child abuse and were determined to need help. Sadly, girls tend to be victims at a slightly higher level than boys. Why? Research isn't clear but I'm sure you can assume some reasons why.
When I have to make a CYF report of child buse, I find myself really struggling at times with how the report may negatively impact the child/family. But after 11 years of making reports as a therapist, I've gotten to a place of strength where I can check in with myself and do what is right.
Child abuse is a topic a lot of people would rather ignore because no one ever wants to think a child is being abused in any capacity. But child abuse is more common than we realize.
While this topic may not relate some of you, I think it's a good foundation for next week's discussion. In this video, I will discuss child abuse as a general overview so that we can begin, on Monday, talking about the topics you have suggested for me to talk about and the topics I think you'll enjoy learning about.
Is there a such thing as "unintentional abuse"? https://childsworldamerica.org/signs-significance-unintentional-abuse/
