Activision Blizzard are aiming to get Overwatch 2 released “as soon as possible”, according to a new report.

An insider at Activision Blizzard told Dextero that Overwatch 2 is a top priority and is aiming for release before summer of 2022.

This has been backed up, with a member of the franchise management team saying “We’ve all been told that the aim is Q2 of next year”.

This stands in opposition to recent reports that Overwatch 2 was not likely to release during 2022, citing development taking longer than expected.

The uncertainty of the games release date has spilled over into the Overwatch League, which has yet to announce plans for it’s 2022 season. Overwatch League Vice President Jon Spector has said that whilst they have not yet set dates for the 2022 season, it will not be taking a “year-long hiatus” as previously reported.

“It's really not practical to respond to every rumor about our future plans, but in this case this story is inaccurate. We have not set nor communicated dates about our 2022 season yet but do not plan to take a 'year-long hiatus' in any scenario we are considering currently.”

More Overwatch 2 information may be released during Blizzcon, expected in early 2022.
