Overwatch: Tracer Overview & Introduction! (Abilities & Lore)
Tracer is an extremely fast-paced character in Overwatch who has a moderate amount of health and damage but a ton of mobility. Her play style is to hop around the battlefield and keep dashing in and out of combat constantly. She can get across terrain faster than anyone else in the game currently can.
Tracer is a character where personal skill will shine. She can almost always get out of tough situations, but since she needs to be in close combat to be effective, you will find yourself at low health. The best part about playing Tracer has to when you Blink forward, sticky the Pulse Bomb ultimate to a hero and then Recall out just to blow up pretty much any character in the game.
Tracer's abilities:
Pulse Pistols (LMB) - Two pistols that do moderate amounts of damage but fire extremely quickly.
Blink (Shift) - Dashes straight forward. Has up to three charges on a low cooldown.
Recall (E) - Brings Tracer back in time for a couple of seconds. Reappearing at another position with the health and ammuniation she had at the time.
Pulse Bomb (Q) - Ultimate ability that plants a sticky bomb on the ground or wall or on a target.
She is played best as a character that goes in and around constantly. While she can pick off targets by herself, she is played most efficiently as someone who is constantly moving. It's all about getting in positioning, and much less so about chasing and dueling.
Lena Oxton as Tracer is named was the youngest person ever to get introduced in Overwatch's experimental flight program. During the first testflight of a new airplane the teleportation matrix of the prototype malfunctioned, the plane crashed and Lena disappered. Tracer reappeared months later. However, the crash changed her. She can disappear for days at a time, unable to maintain physical form. Winston designed a device that keeps Tracer in the present, called the Chronal Accelerator. It gives Tracer the ability to now control her own time, speeding it up and slowing it down at her will, thus making her as mobile as she is.
The goal of this series is to introduce the different Heroes of Overwatch so you can get an advantage when you are able to play this game, which is likely later this year. I will try to keep the videos short and concise but with all the necessary information to introduce the characters. Please note that the footage in this video is taken from an early version of Overwatch and may not represent the final product.
Overwatch is an upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter in development by Blizzard Entertainment. Unveiled on November 7, 2014 at BlizzCon, the game emphasizes cooperative gameplay using a cast of various "heroes", each with their own abilities and roles within a team. The game is scheduled to enter a closed beta phase in the fall of 2015.
