Overwatch: Winston Overview & Introduction! (Abilities & Lore)

One of the tanks in Overwatch is Winston. Winston will be used mainly to shield away damage from the allies and to function as a meat shield between enemies and allies. He has a lot more hitpoints than other Heroes, and is quite mobile for such a big tank. When he activates his ultimate ability, he will almost double his hitpoints to make him nearly unstoppable. He zones other players out and does melee damage. Ofcourse he does melee damage in a shooter type game... He's a Gorilla.
Winston's abilities:
- Tesla Cannon (LMB) - A short-range electric shot that does damage to enemies that are nearby.
- Jump Pack (Shift) - Winston jumps up in the air and deals significant damage on impact as well as staggers enemies.
- Shield Projector (E) - Winston puts down a shield projector that basically creates a dome around a projector that he puts on the ground.
- Primal Rage (Q) - Winston goes into a rage and embraces his animal nature. He gains additional health and does a lot of melee damage.
The different abilities allow Winston to be in the middle of combat pretty much at all times. He won't be dealing the most of damage, but he will be essential for a team's survival. Without a proper tank it is going to be very difficult for other Heroesto get the damage in so as a Winston player you have to make sure you are in the front of the battle. Because of the high health pool and because of Primal Rage, you still should not be going down too often.m A solid team composition will always need at least one tank. So as Winston, know that you have that role. Soak up the damage for your allies first, and let them get the kills... Until your Primal Rage is up... Then go on a rampage.
As far as Winston's story goes there is a lot to talk about. In short, Winston is a super-intelligent, genetically engineered Gorilla. He was part of a group genetically enhanced gorillas that were intended to test the effects of prolonged habitation in space on other planets, to see if humans could potentially live on another planet. One of these gorillas displayed such rapid development from the therapy that he was taken under the wing of Dr. Harold Winston. The gorilla in question decided to take the name of his human caretaker and Winston built a rocket to escape to earth.

The goal of this series is to introduce the different Heroes of Overwatch so you can get an advantage when you are able to play this game, which is likely later this year. Overwatch is an upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter in development by Blizzard Entertainment. Unveiled on November 7, 2014 at BlizzCon, the game emphasizes cooperative gameplay using a cast of various "heroes", each with their own abilities and roles within a team. The game is scheduled to enter a closed beta phase in the fall of 2015.
