Overwatch New Hero ZARYA Overview, Gameplay & Hands On Impressions!
Pax is here and we can finally share some new info on Overwatch! In this video I show off the new Hero - Zarya! Zarya is a Russion Bodybuilder who put down the weights and lifted the Particle Cannon to help defend the weak. Her motto "Together we are strong" is both an homage to her homeland and also the Overwatch organization. In this video I show off Zarya's abilities, design and share my impressions based on my hands on experience at Blizzard HQ.

ZARYA'S BACKSTORY
Zarya is an ex world champion female body builder hailing from Russia. When her hometown was attacked by crazed robots she put down the barbell and lept into battle. Using her brute strength she ripped the particle cannon from a nearby robot and used it to defend her comrades. After this she joined the Overwatch organization so that she could help defend the weak around the world.

LOADOUT & SKILLS
Weapon: Particle Cannon - a weapon ripped from a machine attacking her home town.

Left click: Beam Cannon. A channeled short range beam. This deals moderate damage so it's great for taking out squishy targets or simply punishing enemies who hang around in combat with Zarya for too long.

Right Click: Particle cannon instead fires a glob of particle energy over short to melee range. This gives Zarya some AoE damage to deal with clustered enemies and soften up targets to are camping outside of beam range..

Shift: Particle Barrier. This is a medium duration full damage shield. It's primarly to protect Zarya herself from heavy incoming damage but it can also shield allies by blocking shots if she positions herself in the line of fire.

E Ability: Zarya applies a similar Particle Barrier to one ally. It's possible to have both shields up at the same time and they have separate cooldowns so although the shields are only personal bubbles it's possible to block a lot of incoming damage.

The more subtle feature of these particle shields is that when they absorb damage they actualy store it as power within Zarya's weapon. This charge amplifies Zarya's own particle cannon damage. So although her damage is only moderate by default she becomes absolutely deadly after her shields have sustained damage.

Q Ultimate Ability: Graviton Surge. When fired this creates a large AoE gravity well that sucks all enemies and allies into the centre. This skill by itself just displaces enemies but it is a huge playmaker as it can group up enemies for destruction by your teammates. Or you can use your particle cannon's AoE to kill them yourself. You can even be a bit more creative and do things like using the graviton surge to pull enemies off cliffs.
