Oxygen Not Included: 100 K Challenge, LUDICROUS DIFFICULTY! - Part 1: Water
Playing the 100 K Mod Challenge Map, with Max Difficulty, No Care Packages and some self-imposed rules. "Show More" for details.
On this map everything starts extremely cold and frozen so there is no water for performing advanced research and it is much too cold to grow food. Setting Hard Mode for the mod eliminates all geysers, vents and volcanoes, eliminating those as heat/resource sources. I also set max difficulty in the world generation, this means duplicants eat twice as much food (fun on a map where you basically can't produce food!) and their (base) stress increases twice as fast (fun on a map where dupes are constantly being brutalized by cold and such). Care Packages are disabled, meaning no free food/critters/stuff. Furthermore I am using a self-imposed rule of not using the Liquid Tepidizer and not taming Shove Voles, since they are OP. If you have played the 100 K Challenge you'll know it's pretty hard even without added rules stacked on top, so I feel this can legit be described as LUDICROUS DIFFICULTY!
I am sorry there is no voiceover. I live in a madhouse with toddlers and stuff, also it's kind of like a speedrun in that it requires a lot of focus to keep my duplicants alive given the razor thin margins for survival so I'd be mute anyway.
To give a brief explanation of some of the stranger things I do, Constructions have their temperature set to 15 C if the materials are colder (unless using Ice as a material), this can be used to create heat out of thin air. Also Buildings, which are basically anything you can construct which isn't a tile or tile-like, have only 1/5th the Heat Capacity of their materials, meaning it takes 1/5th the heat to melt a 800 kg Ice Tempshift Plate as it would take to melt an 800 kg Ice tile or debris: there's no logic behind this game mechanic, it's just how the game works.
I am using a number of Quality of Life mods, and in particular use DGSM to pick the starting duplicant properties, since spending half an hour rerolling Dupes until I get what I want isn't the height of entertainment. This is especially the case since I want all my Dupes to be "Ugly Criers" since it's the least harmful stress reaction by far.
In part 1, the main focus is on generating liquid water to perform research while also limiting the stress gain so they don't have to cry too often.
