In this video I compare different solar panel setups and try to figure out the pattern behind it.
To conclude: The game seems to check how many tiles of the solar panel are exposed to light and just reduces the power generation in a linear pattern. Also this is true for all situations over the day, no matter if more light is added or less.

Also, please let me know if I didnt miss out on anything here. I know that the community for some reason thinks its worth setting up solar panels i a pyramid pattern for more efficiency. As you see in the video, I was unable to see why.
