The game also follows the story of U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Paul Jackson. His unit is initially deployed to the Middle East to quell an uprising led by a radical Middle Eastern leader named Khaled Al-Asad. The Marines eventually discover that Al-Asad is in possession of a nuclear device. The storyline takes a tragic turn when the nuclear device detonates in a city, resulting in massive casualties.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is often regarded as a landmark title in the first-person shooter genre, influencing subsequent games and shaping the direction of the Call of Duty series. Its success led to several sequels and a remastered version of the game released in 2016.
