I found an easy method with this robot character. Mostly holding R2 trigger and one of the other face buttons to alternate between dropping grenades and firing the laser. Didnt look up the moves but this DESTROYED most bosses and enemies with ease.

I played this maybe once before but since I cant read japanese I think I kept quitting the game in the past instead of continuing. Simply pressing start after dying solved this.
